Economics and Business Economics

Economics and Business Economics

Economics is a broad discipline that seeks to answer the biggest questions that we face in both business and society. For example, why are some countries rich whilst others remain poor? Or when should policymakers intervene in people’s lives in order to minimise crime? Economics provides us with a framework and philosophy from which we can construct answers to such questions. Economics is about developing models that help us to understand the past, so we can create a better future.

A BSc Economics degree allows students to analyse in-depth how economies function (macroeconomics) and how individuals make decisions (microeconomics). These transferable skills are highly sought after across industry, and also provide an excellent platform for future entrepreneurs.

The BSc Business Economics degree allows students to develop their understanding of economic techniques whilst also learning about the principles of business management. This degree has less of an emphasis on using mathematics compared to a traditional economics degree, while the programme fosters numerical skills through the use of up-to-date business applications.
