Mental Health Awareness Week kicked off on Monday at Queen’s with the University hosting a series of events to promote improving mental health and wellbeing through movement.

The headline event was at Queen’s Film Theatre on Thursday – an engaging and lively discussion centred on ‘moving the dial on mental health’ with personal tales from the panel of experts and familiar faces, hosted by Mark Robson, noted sports journalist and broadcaster.

The packed programme offered something for everyone – a walking tour through Belfast’s hidden history, a workshop on circus activities and performance delivered by Circusful on the quad, a range of sporting activities including dodgeball and badminton, as well as on-campus Zumba and a ‘dance yourself fit’ classes. Colleagues were also treated to a sweet treat with a local ice-cream van coming onto campus to deliver the chilled goods on Wednesday.

As the week draws to a close, Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Staff Wellbeing, Conor Curran, said:

“Supporting and promoting both the physical and mental wellbeing of our campus community remains a firm commitment of the University, and we are grateful for colleagues' engagement with our programme of events throughout Mental Health Awareness Week. Special thanks to our expert panel at the QFT who led an engaging conversation around ‘moving the dial on mental health’, in line with this year’s theme, and the very real benefits movement can have on a person’s overall wellbeing and mental health. We been really pleased with the turn out and support on campus and our colleagues are keen to see both continued and new kinds of wellbeing support, reflected in our future plans.”
