Professor Philip McGowan

Professor McGowan is President of the European Association for American Studies and his research analyses the intersections of literature, politics, history and culture in the United States.
Professor McGowan is President of the European Association for American Studies, the world’s largest American Studies association covering 21 national and regional associations in 35 countries across Europe. His primary research area is American fiction and poetry from the nineteenth century to the present day. Key to his work are the intersections of literature, politics, history and culture in the United States.
