Taking Alketa Xhafa-Mripa’s ‘Mendoj Për Ty’ (Thinking of You) 2015 installation in the Pristina football stadium as a case study, this talk will explore how visual arts could offer a sense of justice particularly where conventional justice processes have failed, or at least are limited in bringing accountability, post conflict.

The research engages with conceptual insights on the construction of memory and feminist theories of justice, which is argued provides a useful lens through which to explore to what extent, in the absence of conventional justice responses to sexual violence, art installations may offer a sense of justice for individuals and communities affected by these crimes. In doing so, the presentation also critically reflects on the process of bringing into being the installation itself, and how activism, economics, and politics, directly influence the production of memory relating to sexual violence.
