In July 2024 Professor McEvoy delivered a plenary address to the British Criminology Conference entitled ‘Truth, Reparations and Apologies: How Armed Groups Address Past Abuses.’ The conference was held in at the University of Strathclyde Glasgow and theme of the Conference was Criminology in Times of Transition. It was attended by almost 600 criminologists from around the world.
Professor McEvoy is currently a Leverhulme Major Research Fellow (September 2023-Sept 2026) working on the role of apologies and acknowledgement in addressing past violence and human rights abuses. Speaking after the conference Professor McEvoy said:
I had promised to give a number of presentations at different conferences as part of the dissemination activities for my Leverhulme Fellowship. Needless to say, I was delighted when the invite came in to give a plenary at the BSC, particular when the theme of the conference was such a lovely fit for my own research. As ever with a good conference, I came away from it buzzing, delighted with some really insightful feedback and keen to get on with the writing and the research. It was a privilege to be there.
