Terms and Conditions

The £500 prize will be awarded every year to a student who graduated from Belfast Metropolitan College (first preference) or another NI based regional college, and who has completed one of the University’s Widening Participation (WP) programmes such as Senior Academy or the Pathway Opportunity Programme and/or those that are Care Experienced. Students entering any undergraduate course at Queen’s are eligible to apply.

The £500 prize will be transferred to the successful student in November of their first term.

In the unlikely event that there are no eligible applicants in any given year (from Belfast Metropolitan College OR another NI based regional college), the prize will rollover to the following year when two students will be awarded.

Eligibility

All eligible candidates will be required to submit a short application form online. Candidates will be asked to identify which WP programme they are completing and/or if they are Care Experienced, and which of the WP criteria they meet as follows:

  • Being in the care of a Health and Social Care Trust or Local Authority for three months or more
  • Being from a disadvantaged area (Quintile 1) as defined by NISRA (Northern Ireland Statistical Research Agency). Quintile 1 (Q1) represents the 20% most deprived areas and this information will be verified by the QUB Planning Office (Finance).
  • Being in receipt of Disabled Students Allowance
  • Being the main carer for a family member or dependant.

Candidates will also be asked to answer the following question in 250 words or fewer:
