EU Research Scholarship 2024/25 Terms and Conditions
This award is exclusively for new EU PhD Students (Classified as EU Other for tuition fee purposes) beginning their first year of full-time postgraduate research programme at Queen's University Belfast in the academic year 2024/25 who meet the conditions of their offer.
Award Details
The Scholarship will be awarded to students classified as EU Other (for Tuition Fees) for 3 years on a PhD programme starting in academic year 2024. The value of the award will be between £15,500 to £20,600, depending on the fee rate.
Application Process
No separate application for this scholarship is required. If you are holding an offer for an eligible programme and meet the criteria as set out in these terms & conditions, you will automatically be awarded a Queen’s University Belfast - EU Research Scholarship award upon enrolment.
Award Eligibility
- The Queen’s University Belfast - EU Research Scholarship award is exclusively for new EU students (Classified as EU Other for tuition fee purposes)
- Students must hold an offer for a place on a full-time postgraduate research programme at the Queen’s University Belfast campus, starting in the academic year 2024/25 and prior to commencement of study have met any academic and language conditions attached to their offer as stated in their offer letter.
- Students must be classified as EU Other fee-paying students paying the full EU Other Feein order to be considered for this discount. Students paying NI or GB fees are not eligible for the EU Research Scholarship.
- The value of the scholarship will be £15,500 (fee rate 1 programmes) or £20,600 (fee rate 2 programmes). The PhD tuition fees for entry in 2024/25 are as follows:
- Fee Rate 1: £20,500
- Fee Rate 2: £25,600
Students will be required to meet the balance of the tuition fee, an amount of £5000, for the academic year 2024/25.
- The discount is awarded for each year of study for up to 3 yearsand is deducted from gross tuition fees upon enrolment.
- The scholarship cannot be used in lieu of any required deposit and no cash alternative is available.
- If you wish to defer your entry to the University your scholarship will notbe transferred. However, you will be automatically assessed if you chose to defer your entry until 2025/26.
- The following programmes are excluded from eligibility for the Queen’s University Belfast - EU Research Scholarship 2024/25:

- External PhD programmes where students only undertake part of their research at Queen’s University Belfast.
- Higher Doctorates - Doctor of Divinity (DD), Doctor of Laws (LLD), Doctor of Letters (DLitt), Doctor of Science (DSc), Doctor of Science (Economics) (DSc(Econ)), Doctor of Science, (Education) (DSc(Ed)) and Doctor of Social Science (DSSc)
- PhD programmes by Published Works
- ALL Distance Learning programmes and non-standard fee courses, including part-time programmes.
- If you exit on a lower qualification (i.e., an MPhil instead of a PhD), you will not be eligible for the full scholarship.
- Students must request authorisation from International Scholarships, Global Recruitment before making any changes to their programme of study. Where changes are made without authorisation being granted, the scholarship may be withdrawn, and students may be required to repay the scholarship in full.
- In the event that a student has received scholarship offers for a number of different programmes at Queen’s University, they will only be able to redeem one scholarship award. This will be the scholarship award for the course onto which they enrol in the 2024/25 academic year.
- University Belfast - EU Research Scholarship 2024/25 cannot be used in conjunction with any other University tuition fee scholarship.
- The University is unable to consider requests for increased and/or further funding. The amount of scholarship offered is non-negotiable.
- The University reserves the right to vary all or any scholarship awards, discounts and regulations at its sole discretion.
- There are 40 EU Research Scholarship awards available and will be allocated on a first come basis, based on the date you receive your offer of study.
