- Applying for accommodation
Online accommodation applications for 2024-25 can now be submitted and can be accessed via the ‘How to Apply’ section of the website. The online accommodation application for 2025-26 will open in mid-February 2025.
- Financial Support
A new bursary scheme to support students from lower income backgrounds has been announced by Queen’s University Belfast. The scheme, worth over half million pounds, will support students in Northern Ireland from low-income families to help with accommodation costs. For further information please click here.
Failure to pay accommodation fees
The University has a robust debt management procedure in place which outlines the steps that will be taken by the Residential Fees and Accommodation Team when payments are outstanding / overdue. For a detailed explanation of this procedure please click here.
- Settling In
Homesickness is a natural feeling that many students experience. To help them get settled, our Residential Life Team is available to give advice, mediate, deal with emergencies or just offer time for a friendly chat.
Queen’s offers a range of free and confidential well-being services. They provide students with information, practical and therapeutic support to help them manage any difficulties they are experiencing.

Insurance
Contents insurance cover provided by UK & Ireland Insurance Services (Online) Limited, is included as part of the accommodation fees. Further information on the policy can be found on their website. Details of what is covered in the policy can be found in our Policies and Documents section.
- TV Licence
If a student plans to have a television in their room, or watch live or catch-up TV online, they will need a TV license. For further information visit University students and the TV Licence - TV Licensing
- Safety and security
Safety and security are a key priority for us and we have a wide range of measures in place. These include 24/7 safety teams based in Elms BT9, Elms BT1, Elms BT2 and Queen's Houses are monitored by Queen's Security based at the main University campus. There is CCTV and regular patrols by the Safety Teams across all our accommodation.
- Keeping in touch
It's normal for students to get caught up in their new, exciting lifestyle, but if you're worried then you can contact the Residential Life team to just ask them to check in.
Letters or care packages are a nice way of doing it which you can send directly to them at their accommodation. Simply mark the mail clearly with your name, student number, building, floor and room number.
