“I love the place, Queen's, the bursary, the pathway. Everyone made me feel welcome.”

"The Pathway Bursary has truly been a lifeline for me throughout my university journey."

It supported me immensely, especially with travel costs, as I didn't have a job at the time and had to juggle rent payments alongside my studies. The financial assistance was crucial; it allowed me to live a little and participate in the vibrant student life at Queen’s. I remember feeling left out when friends would invite me for coffee or to go out. I often had to decline, saying I couldn’t afford it.

But with the bursary, I could join in, study with friends, and create those essential connections that make university life so enriching. It made me feel like I was a part of Queen’s, and I could blend in and meet people similar to me.

Before receiving the Pathway bursary, my financial situation was quite tight, and most of my money went towards student finance and rent. The bursary opened doors for me to enjoy social activities, buy necessary study materials, and cover other essential costs. It provided me with a sense of belonging and pride in my time at Queen’s. I felt like I could blend in with my peers, even those who came from wealthier backgrounds.

I graduated last year, and the impact of the bursary was profound. After taking a year out to work, I realised how much I loved Queen’s and wanted to return to pursue a Master's degree. Without the support from the bursary, I might not have had the same quality of life or the opportunity to continue my studies. It motivated me to come back and showed me that despite challenges at home, I could achieve my dreams.

It really motivated me to come back, showing that I may be disadvantaged at home, but I can do it.

Initially, I thought attending university, particularly Queen’s, was beyond my reach. It was only after a teacher recommended the Pathway Programme that I felt I had a chance. I worked hard, achieved the grades, and was fortunate to receive the bursary. Now, as a proud graduate in business, I’m thrilled to be back, embarking on a Master’s program that feels right for me.

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who donated to the Pathway bursary fund.

Your contributions may seem small to you, but they have made a significant difference in our lives. From school supplies to day-to-day living, I wouldn't be here without that support. Thank you for believing in us and helping to shape our futures.
