MEDICINE

School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences | PhD

The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences trains numerous PhD students in the areas of Cancer Research, Experimental Medicine and Public Health.

Its diverse PhD student population comprises both basic and clinical scientists from across the globe engaged in wide-ranging research projects spanning the breadth of the School’s research portfolio from bioinformatics through molecular and cell biology to clinical trials.

PHARMACY

School of Pharmacy | PhD

PhD students within the School of Pharmacy have the opportunity to work alongside leading international academic experts in specialist fields including, Nanomedicine and Biotherapeutics, Pharmaceutical Materials Science and Formulation, Drug Delivery and Biomaterials, Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Delivery and Medicines Optimisation.

Focussing on making real-world improvements for patients, the School’s research spans a wide range of scientific and professional disciplines.

NURSING & MIDWIFERY

School of Nursing and Midwifery | PhD

From Maternal and Child Health, to Chronic Illness and Palliative Care, the School’s research is changing and improving care for people at every stage of life – from their first breath to their last.


PhD programmes within the School are linked to the interdisciplinary and university wide Centre For Evidence and Social Innovation and the Graduate School, extending potential research opportunities both within the UK and internationally.

BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

School of Biological Sciences | PhD

The School of Biological Sciences provides PhD research opportunities in a number of areas ranging from basic biochemistry, molecular genetics and cancer research to agricultural science, marine ecology and the economic evaluation of ecosystem services and food retailing. 

The School is organised into three research themes: Ecosystem Biology and Sustainability, Microbes and Pathogen Biology, and Food Safety and Nutrition.
