“Flipped teaching” or the “inverted classroom” represents a form of blended learning whereby students prepare for lectures in advance through study of pre-prepared resources leaving space during subsequent lectures to focus on engaging learning activities. The aim is transform the lecture from the passive transmission of information into one which nurtures understanding through active learning and discussion.
This workshop will provide an opportunity to consider how technology can be used to facilitate use of the approach in large undergraduate classes. The workshop will look at pedagogic issues surrounding the ‘flipped’ approach and preparing an undergraduate course or part of to be ‘flipped’. The workshop will also look at a range of technology and software which can be used to prepared course materials and to facilitate learning activities in the lecture theatre.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with screen casting, wikis and mobile devices would be beneficial although not essential.
