The activity of assessing students and giving them feedback also informs staff about how the teaching has gone and indicates where modifications may need to be made in the future – short or medium term.
Good practice would be to make early, mid-module or ongoing evaluations of student learning and progress so that adjustment can be made that affect the current cohort.
Ways to do this:
- Minute papers
- Mid-term module review
- Staged assessments
- Practice sessions of skills taught
- PRS tests at the beginning of lectures on previous week’s session or during a current session
- Online discussion forums
- Students requesting feedback on particular parts of an assignment
