The University is committed to assuring the safety of children on campus as far as is reasonably practicable. The University recognises and accepts its responsibility in accordance with all relevant health and safety statutory requirements. The Policy and Guidance on the Safety of Children and Young Persons sets out the University’s general arrangements for assuring the safety of children and young that may be present on the campus from time to time in order to comply with all relevant health and safety statutory provisions with particular reference to the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000. This policy is applicable to children visiting the University both in an official and private capacity. This policy does not cover the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and should be read in conjunction with the University’s Policy on Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults. Under health and safety legislation, a ‘child’ is defined as being under the age of 16 and a ‘young person’ is defined as being over 16 but under 18 years of age.
