Employers Liability
The Employers' Liability insurance fulfils requirements of the Employers' Liability Act and operates in respect of all employees of the University.
Policy Cover
The cover indemnifies in respect of any injury sustained by an employee (see 'Definition of Employee') during the course of employment and within the 'Teritorial Limits' outlined below.
Regulation 5 of the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Regulations 1998 requires copies of the Employers Liability Certificate to be displayed at each place of business at which the policyholder employs persons covered by the policy. The Certificate must be displayed prominently where it can be easily seen and read by employees concerned. If this is not in practice in your School/Department please download the Certificate and display where necessary.Definition of Employee
- Any person under a contract of service or apprenticeship with some other employer and who is hired to or borrowed by the University
- Any labour Master and any person supplied by them
- Any person engaged as a labour-only-sub-contractor and any person supplied by them
- Any self-employed person performing work of a kind ordinarily performed under a contract of service or apprenticeship with the insured
- Any person supplied to the Insured under a contract or agreement the terms of which deem such person to be in the employment of the Insured for the duration of such contract or agreement
- Any work experience student or trainee

Territorial Limits
Great Britain, Northern Ireland, The Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands.
Extended to apply Worldwide in respect of an employee whilst temporarily outside the Geographical Limits stated above, provided that such employee normally resides within the geographical limits stated above. - Public and Product Liability
Policy Cover
This policy indemnifies the University against legal liability for injury to third parties or loss of or damage to third party property arising out of the business of the University.
The following letter can be used by Schools and Departments to be issued to any outside party with whom the University contracts, bids or collaborates, as a confirmation that the University has the appropriate liability cover in place:

Terrorism, Asbestos, Clinical Trials, Professional Advice & Treatment, Medical Malpractice & Treatment, USA/Canada, Inefficacy, Radioactive Contamination, Contractual Liability, Employees, Custody or Control, Damage to Products, Aircraft Products, Fines / Penalties, Advice, Aircraft Watercraft Vehicles, Pollution, Personal & Advertising Injury, War
Territorial Limits
Great Britain, Northern Ireland, The Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands.
Includes activities (excluding manual work outside the member countries of the EU) in the course of the business of the Directors, partners, and/or employees temporarily engaged outside the territorial limits above.
Occurrences worldwide caused by products supplied from or worked upon in the territorial limits above.

Indemnity in respect of legal liability for damage/claimant costs and expenses by reason of:
- Any negligent act, error or omission
- Breach of warranty or authority
- Breach of trust
- Infringement of copyright, patent or design right, trademark
- Breach of confidential information under the Data Protection Act
- Libel & Slander
- Loss or damage to documents
Exclusions
- Injury and damage which does not arise out of advice, design, specification, report or research
- Medical malpractice and clinical trials
- Employers' liability
- Aviation advice or design
- Penalties or Liquidated damages

Worldwide, excluding USA or Canada
