Pensions
Pensions
University employees are contractually enrolled into an occupational pension scheme when they commence their employment. The scheme an employee joins is determined by the grade of the post. The two main schemes are:
- Retirement Benefits Plan (RBP): For employees in grades 1 to 5. An update on the funding position of the RBP is provided in the Summary Funding Statement. The Trustees of the RBP have also prepared a Statement of Investment Principles and an Implementation Statement to govern the investment decisions of the Plan. For more details, please refer to the Scheme Booklet.
- Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS): For grades 6/AC1 and above. For more details, please refer to USS.
Eligibility for USS remains throughout employment, even with grade changes. A temporary change in post will not give rise to a change in pension scheme eligibility.
Clinical staff who were previously members of the NHS/HSC scheme can continue their membership. Non-employees with a "Contract for Services" can join NEST. Information is available directly from NEST.
