Development and Career Progression
Empowering excellence and building commitment is at the heart of what we do at Queen’s. We are committed to creating an environment where all employees can take responsibility for their own development and career progression.
There are multiple processes and initiatives in place to support staff in fulfilling this commitment. The new Personal Development Review (PDR), which was developed in response to feedback from staff, replaces the old Appraisal and encompasses connected process including Confirmation in Post, Academic Promotions and Professorial Salary Review, all of which have been streamlined into a single, annual process. In doing so, PDR makes it easier for all staff to take ownership of their development and achieve their full potential.
Reward and advancement for academic staff is achieved via Academic Progression, which provide a route for academics to achieve their career aspirations on an annual basis. Both PDR and Academic Progression launch on 4 November 2019 and you can read more about what is involved below.
Our staff Learning and Development offer continues to evolve and expand in response to ongoing and emerging staff need and is a pivotal part of supporting development and progression. Staff also have the opportunity to learn and develop on the job through Acting Up and Honorarium opportunities.
To complement this, and to ensure that staff feel equipped to manage and plan for their own career, a dedicated Career Development Hub has been created. Explore the existing L&D offer and Career Development Hub via the links below.
