Leading and Managing at Queen's
Many roles carry leadership responsibilities. Many leaders including those who lead in an academic environment, may be responsible for planning and overseeing the work of others, and/or facilitating their personal development review (PDR) conversation – they have line management responsibilities.
However, there are others who play a leadership role, including those in an academic environment, who may not have line management responsibility but who lead, key functions/defined areas of work (for example, research leaders, module or programme leads) and Professional Specialists such as, for example, HR or Finance specialists, and Project Managers.
Since 2019, line managers have accessed leadership development via our popular People Manager Essentials programme.
However, recognising that support is also required for leaders without line management responsibility, to allow for a more inclusive programme, People Manager Essentials was revised in 2022, and is now delivered as Leading and Managing at Queen’s (LMQ).
