The Biomedical Library serves University students and staff on the Lisburn Road site. It also provides a service to Health and Social Care staff in the Belfast City Hospital and South Eastern Trust.
The Biomedical Library is a branch of The Medical Library, which is situated in the Mulhouse Building on the Royal Victoria Hospital site.
The Biomedical Library is located beside the reception on the ground floor of the Medical Biology Centre. The MBC is located on the Belfast City Hospital site on the Lisburn Road, directly opposite Elmwood Avenue. Car parking is available in the visitors' car park on the Belfast City Hospital site.
It is a 15-20 minute walk from the Medical Biology Centre/Belfast City Hospital to The Medical Library/Royal Victoria Hospital. Simply exit the hospital at the Donegall Road, walk along the Donegall Road, turn down Roden Street, cross the footbridge over the Westlink and Mulhouse Building will be in front of you at top of Mulhouse Road. As usual, when walking in a city environment, take common sense precautions, such as not walking alone, particularly after dark and being aware of what is going on around you.
A free shuttle minibus runs regularly between Belfast City Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital. Please note you must display your QUB student/staff card to avail of this service.
The Biomedical Library includes books and journals on the following subjects:
- pharmacy
- biomedical sciences
- medicine
- healthcare
- nursing & midwifery
The Library Catalogue gives details and locations of stock, including print and electronic resources. It can be accessed by using the Library Catalogue Kiosk in the Library or from the library website.
Users can borrow, renew and return library material themselves using the Self-Service Machine. If the Library is closed, material can be returned using the Book Returns box located at the library entrance.
The Biomedical Library offers a variety of study spaces, including:
- individual study carrels
- open study spaces
- 5 group study rooms bookable through Queen's Online [currently unavailable for booking]
- 2 individual study rooms bookable through Queen's Online [currently unavailable for booking]
The Library also offers:
- self-service machine allowing borrowers to issue, renew and return their own material
- priniting, scanning and photocopying facilities
- self-service laptop lending
