My PhD project involves visualising the networks of foreign women in China during the late Qing period (1860-1911). I use a combination of traditional and digital research methods to construct their networks, analyse them and explain their impact. My project touches on themes of (semi-)colonialism, imperial careering, missionary organisations, female social structures, and gender norms.
