JAM Junior Academy of Music programme assistant
Activity Overview
Level of StudyUndergraduate, Postgraduate Taught/Masters
Award TypeSingle Route, Combined Route
JAM Junior Academy of Music provides Students with a unique opportunity to assist with music teaching classes to pupils (age 4-18). JAM includes around 200 pupils enrolled across four different programmes. Pupils are taught by specialised tutors, in both group as well as individual classes. The activities include Music and Movement, Musicianship, Choir, as well as Strings, Brass, Guitar and Flute ensembles. Students would be selected to participate as assistants to tutors, getting basic teacher training. Their involvement would be gradual: initially the assistant students would be helping the tutors leading a music activity, and over time would be expected to engage with children by leading activities.
Selected Students will join JAM Staff, they will be required to complete AccessNI and Safeguarding in Education course (provided by QUB JAM), as well as in-house training sessions relating to our music activities. Students will also be invited to free workshops relating to music education, and provide a short reflective feedback at the end of their volunteering. Students are expected to attend 3.5 hours minimum across 30 Saturdays during the year (timetable will be given). Students who complete less hours of engagement can use their volunteering with another activity of their choice to as a part of their Combined Route application for the Future-Ready award.
