The Language Centre currently provides 17 languages courses in a variety of levels for all students of the University regardless of their degree course. 

Courses currently offered are: Arabic, Bengali, Dutch, French, German, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Sign language, Spanish, and Turkish.* 

The language taught is of a practical nature. Class duration is 10 weeks, for 2 hours per week (Face-to-Face), and for 1.5 hours per week (online delivery) as far as possible outside normal University teaching hours. 

A University Certificate will be awarded to all students who attend over 70% of the course. Classes commence at the start of October for Semester One, the middle of January for Semester Two and after the Easter for Semester 3.

  • Possessing high level transferable skills such as communication (both oral and written). 
  • Displaying global and cultural awareness. 
  • Having the ability and desire to learn from oneself and improve one’s self-awareness and performance, to uphold the values of lifelong learning and demonstrate emotional intelligence. 

Contact Hours: x2 hours (Face-to-Face) x1.5 hours (Online) per week for 10 weeks 

Level of Work: Class based oral and written work.
