Volunteering with Scouts NI
Activity Overview
Level of StudyUndergraduate, Postgraduate Taught/Masters, Postgraduate Research
Award TypeSingle Route, Combined Route
Initially the Student discusses expectations with the Scouts NI Growth and Engagement Officer and completes the Access NI form. Once Access NI is confirmed, they are supported to find a group to attend on a regular basis. A Welcome Conversation with the Lead Volunteer will discover their skills and interests and how these can be integrated into the programme. The student will carry out activities and participate in weekly meetings with the selected group. They will be invited to District and NI events to expand their knowledge and engagement as part of the Scouting Volunteer family.
To be eligible for Single Route accreditation you are required to complete the following tasks:
- Completion of online mandatory training in safety, safeguarding and GDPR and to attend an in-person First Response Course (8 hours).
- Becoming a Volunteer Team Member with a Group and carrying out activities with the young people according to the programme and with support of the Lead Volunteer (1.5 hours per week for 12 weeks).
- Attending a Scouts NI training event in person (3 hours).
- At the end the student is to give a written report about their Future-Ready experiences with Scouts NI that they are willing to be used for publicity (1 hour).
Students who do not meet the above requirements but have completed 5+ hours of engagement can still use their volunteering with one other activity to make a Combined Route application for the award through the Step-by-Step Pathway in MyFuture.
