MITACS Funded Canadian Research Internships

Spend 12 weeks in Canada

Queen's Global Opportunities Team are collaborating with Mitacs and Universities UK International to offer 2-4 undergraduate students the opportunity to complete a fully funded 12-week research internship in Canada during the summer of 2026 in a variety of academic disciplines from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

What a Mitacs Globalink Research Internship offers you:

The key features of the Global Research Internship programme are as follows:

The successful applicant will spend 12 weeks (between May and October 2026) at a University in Canada on a research project related to their area of interest and expertise.

Projects will be drawn from a broad cross-section of research topics covering a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

Interns will undertake research projects under the supervision of a Professor in one of 70 participating Canadian Universities.

The fully funded internship includes:

  • Return flights (via reimbursement)
  • Medical insurance
  • Visa fees (via reimbursement)
  • Living stipend
  • Accommodation stipend
  • Registration for professional development training
  • Registration for industry events
  • Student fees at host institution
  • Access to the Mitacs mentor scheme

Please note that although this will be a fully-funded opportunity for the successful candidates, some of these fees will be incurred by selected students upfront and will be reimbursed upon their arrival in Canada.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to undergraduates that have in (May/ June 2025) completed first year of a three-year programme or second year of a four-year programme, i.e. will have one year remaining on their programme when they return to Queen's in September 2026.

Further details in regard to applications will be added to this webpage when applications open in semester 2 of 2024/2025 academic year.
