BUNAC (Summer Camp)
Nine weeks working at a USA summer camp, 30 days traveling, one epic summer. You can’t put a price on that. But if we had to, we’d say it starts with earning a USD $2000 camp salary with meals and accommodation included.

Duration - More InformationSummer camp runs for around nine weeks each summer, between May/June and mid-August.
Summer camps happen each year over America’s summer school holidays, which are longer than in most countries. Therefore, arrival dates are set between 1st May and 20th June and you must be available for a minimum of nine weeks. Preference is often given to applicants who are available at an earlier date and for longer periods of time, so for the best chance of securing a placement, make sure you are open and flexible.
Although there are some exceptions, most nationalities are able apply for our Summer Camp USA programme. All applicants must fulfil the below criteria:
- Aged between 18-30-years-old.
- Able to fly out to the USA before the 20th June.
- Able to commit to the whole camp season, running for nine weeks between June and August.
- Be confident working with children from 6-16-years-old.
- Be a fluent English speaker and have no criminal history.
- Have had some previous experience working with children. However, many applicants don’t realise they already have this, so speak to us about what that entails.
How to Apply
You can apply for Camp USA via BUNAC's website. To work at Summer camp in America, you’ll need a J1 visa. In order to apply for a J-1 visa, there are a few hoops to jump through. However, this isn’t as daunting as it sounds. Having done this process themselves and for hundreds of our travellers, the BUNAC team will guide you through every stage. The J-1 visa consists of an online application and in-person J-1 visa appointment at the US Embassy or Consulate. You must have a completed DS2019 form (Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor status). Our sponsors provide this form for you with support on filling it out. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your stay in the United States, and you must have a free double page for them to attach your paper visa. When you enter the USA, you may be asked to provide supporting evidence for your stay. Such as your ability to pay for your travel costs (usually USD $800 in the form of a bank statement) and proof of departure from the USA.
