Start the Future-Ready Skills Course Now!
The Future-Ready Skills course aims to support you to develop personal and professional skills you need to excel, both during your time at Queen’s and beyond.
It is designed to encourage you to adopt a growth mindset and has a strong focus on initiative, innovation and creativity.
The Course is voluntary, self-directed, and delivered online through Canvas, the University’s virtual learning platform – no time restrictions or due assignment dates!
You have your entire undergraduate time to complete the whole course, or specific modules.
The Future-Ready Skills Course is designed around the Future-Ready Skills which are aligned to Pearson’s Future of Skills, the OECD Learning Compass 2030 and Kingston University’s Future Skills research.

- Digital Skills
- Interpersonal Skills
- Career Management Skills
- Enterprise Skills: Initiative, Innovation & Creativity.
- Commercial / Sectoral Awareness
- Social & Cultural Awareness
- Growth Mindset
In the course you’ll find lots of useful information including a full section on Career Management Skills which will help you to think about your future plans and the gaps that you might have. And it’s tailored specifically to your school.
- 100% online, learn at your own pace, Canvas course, designed to support the development of employability skills for undergraduate students.
- Students who complete the course gain a Future Ready Skills Certificate in addition to their degree, at graduation.
- Students are free to complete as much or as little of the course as they wish.
- No due dates for assignments.
- The modules have a variety of assignments, including skills self-assessments, reflective skills assignments, interview question responses, CV submissions. Assignments are all short, 100 – 150 words.
- Feedback for assignments provided within a max of 2 weeks from submission, but usually takes 2-3 days.
- When does the course start? The course operates all year round, there is no start or finish date.
- To receive the certificate at graduation, final year students must complete the course by 01 April 2025.
How long does it take to complete?
Students have their entire time as an undergraduate student to complete the course.
Course completion take 25 - 30 hours, this equates to 5 hours a semester over a 3 year degree.

- History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics – HAP4002 Future Ready Skills Course
- Natural & Built Environment – NBE2001 Future Ready Skills Course
- Queen’s Business School – QBS1018 Future Ready Skills Course
- Psychology – PSY4002 Future Ready Skills Course
- Social Sciences, Education and Social Work – SOC4005 Future Ready Skills Course
- Maths & Physics – SMP2000 Future Ready Skills Course
- Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering – MEE1019 Future Ready Skills Course (new in 2024/25)
Completion of specific modules or combinations of modules unlocks the chance to enter prize draws. Winners are drawn randomly from all entries.
