Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. Midwifery, meanwhile, is the health science and health profession that deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, in addition to the reproductive health of women throughout their lives.
During the program you will learn about the nursing & midwifery profession and the care & support nurses & midwives provide within health care. We will discuss the differences between midwifery and the 4 different fields of nursing - adult nursing; mental health nursing; children & young people’s nursing and learning disability nursing. You will have an opportunity to meet with registered nurses & midwives to learn about their different roles as well as some of our current students. What do I need to study on the Nursing & Midwifery Pathway?
We would advise that all students check the academic entry requirements (GCSE, A-Levels or equivalent) for each course before applying for their Pathway. Many courses specify that you must have achieved a specific grade at a specific level in order to be conisidered for a place on the undergradtuate programme. Therefore, it is important that you clarify this information as early as possible in order to avoid disappointment.

- What careers are available for graduates in this field?
Nursing
Nursing is more than just a job. It is a dynamic, ever-changing career that has people-focused delivery of care at its heart. A nurse needs to have excellent technical and practical skills and be able to tailor his/her nursing care to suit each patient’s needs. They make critical decisions, often under pressure. Nurses must constantly adapt to the changing needs of the population by developing new skills as methods of care delivery change and by taking on increasing responsibility for patient care.
So if you are looking for a career that not only offers stability and excellent progression opportunities, but also provides you with constant challenges, you have come to the right place.
Midwifery
Midwifery is about more than just ‘catching’ babies. It is all about caring for childbearing women and their families through one of life’s most special, stressful and often daunting experiences. A midwife works, often in a team of other healthcare professionals, to provide clinical care, support, education and guidance to expectant mothers. It is the midwife’s role to ensure that each mother can make informed choices about her care, and to meet any special needs each individual might have.
In an ever changing healthcare arena, a midwife needs to have excellent technical and practical skills and be able to tailor his/her care to suit each expectant mother’s needs. So if you are looking for a career that not only offers stability and excellent progression opportunities, but also provides you with constant challenges, with no two days the same, you have come to the right place.
