This session will consider the nature of human resilience through the lens of sport. We’ll be speaking to Hugh Campbell and Gary Longwood from QUB Sport who - with over 60 years of experience between them as coaches and competitors in elite sports in Ireland - will offer reflections on the personal and environmental factors that develop resilience.

Hugh’s portfolio includes long stints in top -level middle distance running, Irish League soccer and senior Inter-County GAA football. He acts as a mentor to athletes on the Elite Athlete scholarship programme at QUB – a multi -sport initiative. 

Gary is a former Ulster and Ireland rugby player. He is one of Ulster’s most capped players and represented Ireland in six nations and World Cup championships – gaining 25 caps for his country. Since retiring he has managed the Ulster Rugby Academy and now works for Sport NI. His recent work included working closely with Irish Women’s Hockey through their historic World Cup and Olympic qualifying campaigns.
