The Military Education Committee works across both Queen's & Ulster Universities as the interface between the University Service Units and the universities. Its primary aim is the wellbeing of the students who participate in the two organisations – the Officer Training Corps ( Army) and the University Air Squadron (RAF).
This year's lecture is given by Air Vice Marshall Harvey Smyth, a native of Northern Ireland who is actively involved with the aerospace industry here. Air Vice-Marshal Smyth currently he commands all the 'fast-jet' assets of the RAF and in his lecture he will give some insight into the work these squadrons are undertaking as well as talking about the RAF's role in space both now and in the future.
That future will, however, be delivered by young people going into aerospace-defence careers and Harvey will paint a picture of that future and the skills required to operate in it. This is not a recruitment or careers event – it is an opportunity to hear and engage with a leader in their field and how the young people of today are its future – a future of diverse skills and roles you may not know about – in fact roles that may not yet exist. The RAF is a technology rich organisation, an adaptable organisation delivered by a very diverse group of people.
