You are cordially invited to attend the Inaugural Lecture by Professor Brendan Dromey, Centre for Light-Matter Interactions
The School of Mathematics and Physics are delighted to invite you to attend the Inaugural Lecture by Professor Brendan Dromey.
Title of Talk: Ultrafast Nanodosimetry : Tracking the emergence of ultrafast response in complex materials using laser driven accelerators
In Ultrafast Nanodosimetry we build on our track record of harnessing laser-driven accelerators for novel applications to ignite a disruptive new paradigm for understanding and controlling ionising radiation interactions in matter. We aim to track how nanoscopic heterogeneity (the graininess of matter on the smallest scales) can influence the ultrafast response of matter to ionising radiation. Chasing this new horizon will drive forward our fundamental understanding of how radiation damages matter and will accelerate our national effort to develop the next generation of radiation-based technologies. The outcomes of this work will have a direct impact in diverse fields that span improved nuclear engineering in future reactors and novel modalities for radiation oncology, to enhanced health and safety for crewed missions during long haul space travel
