In a turbulent world where access to healthcare has never been more challenging, waiting lists the longest they have ever been, health inequalities widening and the scale of the burnout among healthcare staff from the COVID-19 Pandemic becoming ever more visible, the need to renew our vision and to re-energise, has never been more pressing. We believe that General Practice and Primary Care have a key role to play in this renewal.

We believe passionately that by people coming together, sharing ideas and working together, we can help to improve the health of all communities.

Objectives   

The main objectives of this conference are to:    

1. Create a safe space for the presentation of scientific work from disciplines that inform the fields of general practice, primary care, and public health.   
2. Allow opportunities for the creation of collaborative links between academics and practitioners across Ireland and beyond.

Submission of Abstracts:

For 2025 we are inviting abstracts in three categories:

• Oral presentations (likely around 10 minutes to present)
• Poster presentations (likely 2-3 minutes to present your digital poster)
• Workshops (likely 60-75 minutes)

We welcome abstracts based on research, education, innovation, improvement and implementation. We will consider work in progress. Submissions will ask you to select your preferred presentation category, which is not a guarantee that a presentation of that type will be offered – there will be a limited number of each category available.

All abstracts should be submitted using the online form before 1700hrs December 13th, 2024

This form will require the details of the presenting author. All correspondence regarding the abstract will be directed to the email provided. Please ensure the email you use will be accessible up to March 2025.

Guidelines for structuring abstracts:

Oral or poster presentations:

• Maximum 300 words excluding title and author information
• References are not required, please no tables or graphs to be included within abstracts
• Please use subheadings most appropriate to your work. Abstracts should explain the research question/problem addressed and purpose of the work; how it was carried out; main findings or lessons learned, with succinct qualitative and/or numerical data as appropriate; and main conclusions/implications. Research abstracts could be structured as per peer-reviewed publications i.e. Introduction, Aims, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions
• Text/title should be free from abbreviations, except those commonly used (e.g. GP).

Workshops:

• Maximum 300 words excluding title and presenter information
• Please state the purpose, target audience and background/ rationale for the workshop
• Please include an outline for how the workshop would run and any ‘deliverables’ it is hoped to achieve from the workshop.

Prizes:

Prizes are available for best research presentation, best education related presentation and best GP trainee presentation. Please indicate in your submission if you are eligible and/or wish to be considered for one or more of these prizes.

• Professor George Irwin Prize for best education presentation
• Professor James McCormick Prize for best research presentation
• Professor William Shannon Prize for best GP trainee presentation.
