We are delighted to be welcoming Professor Victoria Simms into the career exploration interview chair for the second of our new career exploration interview sessions! This discussion will provide postdocs with the opportunity to hear about Victoria's career journey in academia, despite a brief hiatus from academic life.
Creating a healthy work-life balance can be difficult at times, and during this session, we will explore how to navigate career aspirations and life priorities.

ALL WELCOME! This event is primarily targeted at postdocs and research staff, but is open to anyone who is interested in attending, including individuals of all career stages and roles affiliated to any university or without university affiliation.
In this event Professor Victoria Simms will be interviewed by Jill Wright, Research Careers and Employability Officer in the Postdoctoral Development Centre at Queen's University Belfast. Jill will ask some prepared questions but also relay questions shared by the audience in the event chat.

PROFESSOR VICTORIA SIMMS
Developmental Psychologist
Victoria Simms is a developmental psychologist with a specific interest in the development of mathematical thinking in children. Her work also focuses on the long-term consequences of preterm birth, specifically cognitive and educational outcomes.
Victoria is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Numerical Cognition. She also chairs the board of the Northern Ireland Science Festival.
Victoria completed her PhD in Cognitive Psychology at Queen's University Belfast in 2008. She then worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at a number of institutions (Heriot Watt University, Queen's University Belfast and the University of Leicester) before joining Ulster University in 2013. Victoria was appointed as Research Director for the School of Psychology at Ulster University in 2017. She was promoted to Reader in Psychology in 2018 and to Professor of Developmental Psychology in 2021.
