Description:
Corpus Linguistics is the use of computational tools and methods to compile and analyse large quantities of digitised texts. Informed by linguistics, CL involves careful data selection methods and analytical tools which provide insights on language use and patterns.
Attendees are welcome to join for either the overview, the workshop, or both.
Overview: 1-2pm
The overview will give an introduction to the field, summarizing the tools and the approach that underpins them.
Workshop: 2-3pm
The workshop will give attendees the opportunity to explore the British National Corpus (BNC) the largest existing reference corpus of British English, which can be used as a resource to understand language use. We will also download and use AntConc, a popular corpus analysis software.
