Miscarriages of Justice and the Criminal Cases Review Commission: An In-depth Focus for Practitioners

The session will explore the powers of the Criminal Cases Review Commission in respect of summary and indictable offences, sentences and references for fresh appeals with particular focus on the CCRC’s work in Northern Ireland. With an introduction from the Lady Chief Justice, the session will include contributions from the CCRC Chair, Helen Pitcher OBE, Northern Ireland Commissioner Johanna Higgins and In-House Counsel John Curtis. Short presentations from two local practitioners, Joe McVeigh and Frank O’Donoghue KC and a panel chaired by the LCJ will provide a variety of critical perspectives on this important topic.
This event is co-hosted by the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Human Rights Centre at QUB.
Attendees can claim 2 CPD hours / group study CPD hours for attendance at this event.
