'Protection of Media Pluralism in EU Law – Shifting Paradigms. From Internal Market to Fundamental Rights Protection and Freedom of Information'

This research on media pluralism in EU law explores how various legal frameworks intersect amid transformative changes in the media landscape. The planned book addresses the fragmented nature of EU media law, shaped by limited EU powers, complex enforcement layers, and legislation primarily driven by the internal market.
In recent years, the EU has introduced several new legislative measures to reinforce media pluralism and address these varied challenges. Laws such as the Digital Services Act, European Media Freedom Act, the Political Advertisement Regulation, and the Artificial Intelligence Act represent significant steps towards a more cohesive and comprehensive regulatory framework for media in the EU. These initiatives seek to balance the rapid technological advancements and growing populistic attempts to capture media with the need to protect democratic values and ensure a diverse and independent media landscape.

With this backdrop, my research aims to bridge the various silos within EU law that address media pluralism. It seeks to integrate the different regulatory objectives and frameworks into a unified approach that recognizes and addresses the multifaceted nature of media challenges today.
