Title: Human rights heroes – to equality and beyond! How activists can win the fight for justice.

Human rights progress in Northern Ireland is hard won.

Where progress has been made - from abortion, to marriage equality and language rights - it has invariably been down to the determined activism of citizens who refuse to take no for an answer.

But there's so much that remains to be done - from the legacy of the conflict to tackling present-day problems of paramilitarism, poverty and racism.

In the Stephen Livingstone Lecture 2024, Patrick Corrigan reviews the state of human rights in Northern Ireland, celebrates the activists securing wins against the odds and discusses what should happen next to build a just future for all.

Bio: Patrick Corrigan is the Head of Nations and Regions and Northern Ireland Programme Director of Amnesty International UK where he has worked since 1997 on a wide of range of campaigns, both global and local. He is a co-founder and board member of the Human Rights Consortium. He graduated from Queen's University Belfast with an LLM in Human Rights Law in 2010.
