Tell us about your own academic journey.
I have a first class honours degree in Management and Business Studies and a Masters in Organisation and Management, both from Queen’s Management School.
What was your career journey before you started working at The Graduate School?
Having worked at Queen’s for over 40 years now I have seen many changes. Before joining the Solutions Centre I worked in Schools within the EPS and MHLS Faculties and have extensive experience of school administrative procedures, event management and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
Are there any unique resources or opportunities available through your department that students might not be aware of?
As Project Manager for the Solutions Centre, I work closely with PGR Directors and Administrative staff to support the development and improvement of processes and procedures related to PGR application management with the aim of improving candidate and staff experiences. I also monitor international PGR targets, working with international staff, agents and partners in supporting cohort growth to meet current and future strategies.
Do you have any favourite inspirational quotes or mantras that keep you motivated in your work?
I have 2 favourite quotes: Always treat people with kindness and respect: Maya Angelou — 'I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.' Grab each opportunity while you can, when you can: Vivian Greene - "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain."
What's your favourite thing about Belfast that students should definitely check out?
Belfast is a vibrant, friendly and multi-cultural City with loads to see and do, especially within the arts and music scene. I would urge visitors to explore more widely too as beautiful countryside and blue flag beaches are within 30 minutes travel of the city. What’s not to love!
Do you have a favourite travel destination or a memorable trip?
I have climbed mountains in France, South Africa, Canada, Scotland and the Mournes. I have abseiled off Table Mountain in South Africa, the Mournes, the Europa Hotel and from the roof of the SSE Arena! If you are into your outdoor sports there are plenty of opportunities right here in beautiful Northern Ireland so take advantage while you are here!
