Queen’s University Belfast has today re-affirmed its commitment to the principles within the Social Charter.

Launched in 2017, the Social Charter shines a light on the significant contribution made by our students and staff. It also highlights the positive impact the university has on our society - economically, socially and culturally.

The University’s Corporate Plan celebrates the Social Charter through the identification of 19 Signature Projects; chosen to bring the Charter to life.  These projects range from local homework clubs to global alliances for leading-edge cancer research.

 Some examples are:

• The Queen’s Centre for Shared Education which led to positive legislation change.
• Our unique Pathway Opportunity Programme has provided a route to university for talented young people who require additional support.
• Queen’s student volunteers provide homework support to children and young people who live in areas of educational underachievement.

The Social Charter has three principles and seven themes. The three principles are leadership, positive impact on society and commitment to equality and justice. The seven themes are: Research with Impact, Education with Social Purpose, Breaking Boundaries to Produce New Knowledge, Civic Culture and Intercultural Dialogue, Equality and Excellence, Sustainability and Recognising and Rewarding Contributions from Students and Staff.
