Statement: Queen's welcomes Economic Vision for Northern Ireland
President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, Professor Ian Greer, has welcomed the Economic Vision for Northern Ireland announced today by Economy Minister Diane Dodds.
Professor Greer said that the University is committed to continuing to work in partnership with Business, Government and Civic Leaders to deliver the plan’s ambition to ensure Northern Ireland is positioned among the elite, small open economies of the world and to create better jobs with better wages and improve the quality of people’s lives.
Professor Greer said: “I strongly welcome today’s announcement which underlines the importance and impact of skills, research and innovation and aligns with our own developing strategy for the next 10 years.
“Queen’s has played a vital role in recent years of ensuring that Northern Ireland is a global leader in cyber security, health and life sciences, creative industries and advance manufacturing and engineering through our world-class research and the highly-skilled graduates that we produce.
"Universities have a key role to play in ensuring the success of the economy and we undertake to continue to work in collaboration and partnership with Government, Industry, Business and Civic Society to deliver the vision outlined today.”
