Talented Business graduate secures consulting role after playing active part in Queen’s student life
Guilherme Santos is graduating today with a degree in International Business with Spanish after playing an active role in QBS Connect.
At just seven years old, Guilherme Santos moved to Northern Ireland from Brazil and some 16 years later is graduating from Queen’s University Belfast.
Throughout his time at Queen’s, Guilherme has been an active member of Queen’s Business School (QBS), getting involved in all aspects of student life. In the final year of his studies in particular, Guilherme got deeply involved in QBS Connect – run by and for students within the School.
Guilherme enjoyed the planning and delivery of a wide range of QBS Connect events tailored to different student needs including academic, employability, and social, and these served a deeper purpose too:
“One of our main goals was fostering a sense of community through our events, I felt that our team's contributions significantly enhanced the overall student experience. This role not only allowed me to make a positive impact on my peers but also provided me with valuable experiences that I will carry forward in my future endeavours.”
As well as balancing his studies with his role in QBS Connect, Guilherme did his best to avail of every opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, and there was one stand out project he enjoyed in particular:
“I took part in the EQUIS reaccreditation for the Business School which was incredibly rewarding as I was able to reflect on my time at Queen’s and learn about all the factors that make up the Business School.”
Outside of QBS, Guilherme had an active role in the wider University community and took every opportunity to build connections and broaden his skillset:
“I also was part of the Spanish and Portuguese Society committee for two years as a first-year rep and a social media manager, and was able to make friendships and connections that will last a lifetime.
“In my second year of university, I was lucky enough to form part of the inaugural cohort of Student Digital Champions. This role enabled me to give back to the wider Queen’s university community and also develop my digital skills in various areas.”
Reflecting on his time at Queen’s, Guilherme enjoyed the diverse range of modules taught at the Business School, which enabled him to immerse himself in many different areas of business. He is also grateful to the support he received from the University and its staff:
“I would like to mention Christopher Baird for his Business Start-Up module and his incredibly engaging teaching style. I would also like to mention Karl Webb for being an excellent manager throughout my time with QBS Connect and also for helping me network and find a graduate job opportunity.”
Looking now to what comes next, Guilherme is excited about the future and applying what he learned at Queen’s in his career:
“Thankfully, I have been able to secure a graduate job with Lancia Consult as a consultant starting this September. I plan on diving straight into the world of consulting and exploring all the opportunities that helps me develop professionally using all the skills and knowledge I learned during my time at Queen’s.”
