Queen’s Professor awarded 2024 British Thoracic Society Medal
Professor Stuart Elborn CBE, Honorary Professor of Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast, has been awarded the 2024 British Thoracic Society (BTS) Medal.
The BTS Medal is awarded annually to a distinguished person who has greatly contributed to respiratory medicine or science.
This prestigious award aims to acknowledge the recipient's leadership in and contribution to clinical and/or scientific work which has resulted in benefit to patients and the inspiration of peers.
Professor Stuart Elborn is a leading figure in respiratory medicine and healthcare innovation. Until July 2024, he served as Interim Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Queen’s, overseeing academic performance, governance, and initiatives in equality, sustainability, and the Belfast Region City Deal Programme.
His research focuses on cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis, advancing diagnostics, therapies, and digital healthcare solutions.
Professor Elborn has dedicated much of his career to researching cystic fibrosis, leading to major advancements in treatment, improvements in clinical care and the development of new clinical guidelines.
Commenting on this recognition, Professor Elborn said: I am delighted and humbled to receive the BTS medal. It is a testament to the amazing work of great teams of patients, clinicians, scientists and support colleagues who I have had the honor to work alongside in cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis care and research.”
