Dr Gemma Carney
Lecturer in Social Policy and Ageing in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work
School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work (SSESW)
Dr Carney’s work research aims to further our understanding of ageing and older people, cultural gerontology, politics of ageing or gender scholars with an interest in ageing societies.
Gemma can assist with or answer questions or queries about how COVID 19 might affect older people. This is in her capacity as member of the exec committee of British Society of Gerontology (BSG) and arising from a piece published in the Conversation.
The BSG put a lot of work into producing a statement – there is a strong evidence base that using arbitrary chronological age is not helpful in terms of public messaging about COVID-19.
