Dr Pal Schmitt
Lecturer
School of Natural and Built Environment (NBE)
Dr Pal Schmitt is a marine engineer with research interests in the design and development of coastal and marine engineering structures.
Dr Pál Schmitt is a marine engineer specializing in marine and coastal engineering structures, with a strong focus on renewable-energy technologies. His work integrates both physical and numerical modelling to improve the design of these structures. He has made significant contributions to marine renewable-energy research, particularly in advancing the use of high-performance computing to simulate wave-energy converters and field testing of tidal turbines.
Dr Schmitt collaborates across disciplines, leveraging expertise in machine learning and numerical testing to optimize renewable-energy systems and minimise environmental impacts. He also manages the Portaferry Coastal Wave Basin, which is key to his research.
Dr Schmitt's projects are central to advancing renewable-energy technologies and improving environmental sustainability.
