Professor Christopher McCrudden

Professor Christopher McCrudden is a world-leading expert human rights and equality law at the School of Law, Queen’s University Belfast and the William W Cook Global Law Professor at the University of Michigan Law School.
Specialising in human rights, Professor McCrudden concentrates on issues of equality and discrimination as well as the relationship between international and comparative human rights law.
He is the author of Buying Social Justice (Oxford University Press, 2007), a book about the relationship between public procurement and equality, and (with Brendan O'Leary) Courts and Consociations (Oxford University Press, 2013), about the tensions between human rights and ethnic power-sharing arrangements that are common in peace agreements.
In 2018, Oxford University Press published his latest book, Litigating Religions: An Essay on Human Rights, Courts, and Beliefs.
He was a member of the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights (1984-88), and the Procurement Board for Northern Ireland (2004-2008). He frequently is called on to give evidence to Parliamentary committees in London, and has also presented evidence to Northern Ireland Assembly committees, and the Seanad in Dublin.
