Children’s voices occupy a valued place in many twenty-first century contexts. Moreover, they often have a particular role in mobilising others and in instigating debate about social, political and environmental issues. This event introduces new research on seventeenth-century girls who speak up and speak out to raise questions. It forms part of Edel’s current project on writing by early modern girls, and draws on her longstanding interests in childhood and literary history and in Shakespeare and riot.
Edel is a Senior Lecturer in Renaissance Literature at the School of Arts, English and Languages, and and Associate Fellow at the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice
