- Date(s)
- February 9, 2022
- Location
- Virtual Session via MS Teams
- Time
- 15:00 - 16:00
Brian Byrne, a second year LINCS doctoral scholar, will be presenting a paper titled "Digital Cosmopolitanism and the Connected Migrant". This presentation explores 'ground-up' tactics of 'digital resilience' involving the use of immersive technologies by asylum-seekers in Belfast, to mitigate the impact of the UK's 'hostile environment' narratives.
Sejal Chandak, a second year Law PhD student, will be presenting a paper titled "Women, Discrimination and Algorithms". Discrimination based on gender is a violation of human rights but technology-assisted decision making is black-boxing this and unsuspectingly reinforcing the same in society. This short presentation will discuss this theme while discussing the potential ways to incorporate equality in technology. Further the presentation will also critically analyse the draft bill on Personal Data Protection in India to discuss if the provisions can reinforce constitutional rights in India.
To register your attendance at our seminar, and/or to be added to the LINCS/LINAS Seminar Series Teams space, please email Tomás at tmcinerney01@qub.ac.uk.
