The full programme for the CAPS Summer School, taking place in Rennes, France, 20-23 June 2023 is now available. Read the full programme here.
Whenever we hear ‘Attention please!’ or see a sign with this request in a public space, it is commonly understood that an authority demands our urgent attention. Depending on context – and if spoken, intonation – it can be a polite request or a downright command to immediately direct our attention in a certain way.
The Summer School and Conference will explore:
- Who has the authority to direct human attention in public spaces and how does this affect the ways in which we engage with our environment(s)?
- How do such interactions affect the creation and reception of art in public spaces?
- What are the implications for different approaches to social, cultural, political, and ethical issues?
The full summer school is open to all CAPS international partners, as well as Masters and PhD students. It is also open to both academic and non-academic partners in Rennes. Queen’s University Belfast is an international partner of CAPS and our academics and students are invited to attend the full Summer School.
The Summer School programme includes a one day Conference, taking place on Tuesday 20th June. The Conference will be broadcast online via Zoom. To join online, please register in advance, and by Monday 19th June, by contacting creativepublicspace@univ-rennes.fr.
This event is co-organised by the Graduate School for Creative Approaches to Public Space and Dr Eva Urban-Devereux, Mitchell Institute Visiting Scholar, as part of her role as EUR CAPS Visiting Professor for the International Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rennes 2.
