Darren Colbourne is a third year PhD candidate at Queen's University Belfast in the school of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. His work focuses on a re-examination of the People's Democracy, an understudied New Left group whose impact on Irish politics during the intersection of the Long Sixties, European New Left, and Irish Troubles drew Darren to a research project interrogating their ideological identifications. His work attempts to interweave the PD's networks with the wider international New Left by discussing their development in relation to that of the American Students for a Democratic Society. He has spoken about both groups at conferences in England, Northern Ireland, and continental Europe. He further hopes to promote a new processual understanding of identifications and apply this theoretical framework to the political trajectory of 1960s student movements.
