Walking the walk: Ex-prisoners, lived experience, and the delivery of restorative justice

Prisoners and ex-prisoners are often limited to the 'offender' role when participating in restorative justice processes. This article instead focuses on ex-prisoners as facilitators of restorative practices, highlighting their ability to lead such programmes. Using a case study from Northern Ireland, Dr Allely Albert (Institute Fellow - Legacy Theme) explores the way that experiences of incarceration have directly influenced the skillsets of ex-prisoner practitioners, arguing that their lived experience provides them with unique attributes that can enhance the micro-dynamics of restorative justice systems.
