How Can I Make an Informed Choice?
-
What can I do to make an informed choice about the right course for me?
We have a number of ways to help you make informed choices:
- We offer a range of undergraduate events that you can attend and find out more about life at Queen's
- Join us for our Offer Holder Days on Saturday 22 March 2025, 9.30am-3pm or Saturday 12 April 2025, 9.30am-3pm. These events are designed to familiarise you with your chosen course and department and explore our beautiful campus.
- You can also chat live to students studying your course or get in touch with our undergraduate recruitment team by email
- What are offer holder days?
Offer Holder Days are invite-only events for prospective undergraduate students currently holding an offer to study at Queen's. These days are a chance for students to find out more about their chosen department, meet staff and students and learn more about their chosen course.
- How is an offer holder day different from an open day?
The Offer Holder Day provides an opportunity to explore their chosen course in more detail with subject talks and demos, and speak with current students and departmental staff. Students will be able to take part in walking campus tours and tours of our accommodation sites.
- How can I attend the Offer Holder Day?
When you become an offer holder you will receive information about our invite-only Offer Holder Day for students who made an application to Queen's University and are holding an offer with us, either conditional or unconditional. The experience is subject specific and tailored to give you the chance to explore your chosen course and the University in much more detail.
See a full list of other upcoming Undergraduate events.
- Can I bring someone with me?
If you would like to bring someone with you to the Offer Holder Day, you will be able to add them at the booking your place stage. To ensure safe venue capacities, we cannot accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.
Confirming Your Place at Queen's University
-
When is the deadline for accepting my offer?
Reply dates on UCAS are based on when you get the last decision in from your universities or colleges. In your UCAS account, you will see a personal deadline. More information on final deadline on when you should reply to your offer can be found on the UCAS website.
- When will my place be confirmed?
If you have received a conditional offer, you might not hear from us until A Level Results Day, which is typically mid-August.
The University will make decisions on all applications which are conditional (Firm and Insurance) on an ongoing basis as results are received and will notify UCAS formally. Applicants will then receive decisions through UCAS and not direct from the University.
If, for any reason, your results will not be available within the normal anticipated timescales, please advise the Admissions and Access Service as soon as possible and keep us updated on the position.
- I want to drop one of my A Level Subjects, will that affect my offer?
You must be able to meet all the conditions of your offer with the remaining subjects. If the subject you wish to drop is not stated in your offer conditions or a requirement of our course programme, then dropping the subject should typically not affect your offer.
If you want to drop a subject, please get in touch with our admissions team informing of us of the subject you wish to drop and we can advise on how that might impact your offer - admissions@qub.ac.uk
- If I miss the conditions of my offer, can I still get a place?
Where applicants have not quite met the conditions of their offer, a range of factors is taken into account in deciding whether or not to confirm a place. While Queen’s specifies offers in terms of three A-levels for most of its degree courses, performance in additional subject(s) at AS/A-level can be very important at Confirmation. Other information considered includes:
- Performance in relevant subjects (eg Mathematics for Engineering programmes).
- A* grades and the overall combination of grades
- In tie-break situations, preference may also be given to applicants holding the offer as their Firm choice (rather than Insurance)
Where applicants are holding an offer for entry to an MEng/MSci programme, they will automatically be considered for the related BEng/BSc programme if they do not achieve the grades required for the MEng/MSci programme.
- Can I be considered for an alternative course
If, having received your results, you wish to be considered for an alternative course, please contact our admissions team - admissions@qub.ac.uk
It is essential for applicants who receive changed course offers notified via UCAS Track to take the necessary action. If you fail to do so within five days, UCAS will decline the offer on your behalf.
How Can I Make Changes to My Application?
-
How can I find out if application deadlines change?
Keep up-to-date of changes to applications deadlines, please refer to your UCAS Hub which provides useful updates and information regarding application deadlines.
- If I change my mind, how can I make changes to my application?
You can make changes to your application using your UCAS Hub. You can also make changes to your name, date of birth or passport details through UCAS. However should you wish to change your start date or course, please contact our admissions team using admissions@qub.ac.uk.
If you have already accepted an offer with another University and wish to change your reply, please contact your UCAS advisor to make changes to your replies. It is good practice to also inform those Universities involved of the changes to your offer reply.
- I have not applied to Queen’s but now I wish to apply for 2025 entry. Is this possible?
We accept late applications on a number of courses*, please check our website for courses available. Please see our website for further information on applying through UCAS Extra.
* With the exception of Medicine, Dentistry, Social Work, Nursing and Midwifery, and Actuarial Science and Risk Management
Course Information for 2025 Entry
-
Will it be more competitive in 2025 for a place?
Entry requirements to courses remain unchanged. If you have already applied for entry in 2025, decisions are made on an ongoing basis and you will hear from our Admissions team shortly.
- Can I defer my offer to 2026 entry?
We understand that personal circumstances can always chance, but in order to make an informed decision, we would recommend that you delay making the final decision on your offers until you have received them all. Should you wish to defer your offer to 2026 please contact admissions@qub.ac.uk
Please note: Normally Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work do not consider requests for deferred entry.
- Can I cancel my deferral and attend this year?
If you have now decided you want to cancel your deferral, we cannot guarantee you a place. Please contact us to find out if it's possible. The admissions team will review your request and provide a decision - admissions@qub.ac.uk
