Entry Requirements
The application procedure varies for undergraduate and postgraduate students, so we publish separate information for each. You'll also need to be able to provide evidence of a specified level of ability in the English language.
The following qualifications will be considered for direct entry to our undergraduate programmes:
- Three A levels
- Between 30 and 36 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). .
- The Standard Indian XII (10+2) examinations from CBSE, CISCE or State Boards of Higher Secondary Education are acceptable for admission to our Bachelor degree programmes.
An average mark of 70 - 85% or higher (best of 5 academic subjects) in the Standard Indian XII Higher Secondary School certificates awarded by the central boards (CBSE, CISCE) or a state board, or equivalent, with 75% or higher where subject requirements are stipulated (comparable with Grade B at A Level). Note: Applicants will be required to provide an official Digilocker verification of their Standard XII grades/certificates.
Typical offers (minimum overall average percentage) for applicants with Standard XII would be as follows:
- 85% (comparable to AAB at A-Level)
- 80% (comparable to ABB at A-Level)
- 75% (comparable to BBB at A-Level)

If applicants have taken JEE Main or Advanced examinations, results may be considered in addition to Standard XII results. Good percentile scores in JEE subjects will be considered where performance in a key subject in Standard XII is below the stated minimum requirement. In order for JEE scores to be considered, applicants should have achieved the University’s normal Standard XII overall percentage requirement (as outlined above), with at least 60% in key subjects.
If you do not meet these requirements you may be eligible to apply for entry to the Queen’s University Belfast International Study Centre International Foundation. These programmes are based on our campus and help you to prepare for study with us. Successful completion guarantees progression to Stage 1 of an undergraduate degree programme at Queen's (with the exception of Agricultural Technology, Medicine, Dentistry and Social Work).

We take into account that at some of India's most prestigious higher education institutions it is rare to be awarded a First Class degree. For this reason, it may be possible at the discretion of the Selector to consider candidates from top institutions who have achieved a very good Second Class degree with a final average of 58% or above (where a UK 2:1 is required), or 53% (where a UK 2:2 is required).

Supporting Documentation
When submitting your application, please ensure that you upload copies of official transcripts for completed programmes as well as those currently in progress. Degree award certificates for programmes already complete should also be provided. Please provide a copy of the grading scale which is usually provided on the back of your transcript. An official Digilocker verification of your degree award must also be provided.
Borderline Cases
Sometimes, it may be possible to exercise flexibility in the case of applicants who have completed their degree with slightly lower grades than those outlined in their offer letter. In these cases, the decision will be at the discretion of the Academic Selector.
On completion of your degree, you should forward a copy of your official transcript and award certificate to intl.admissions@qub.ac.uk to confirm the award of your qualification and the overall grade. Unfortunately, we cannot advise you further until we receive this documentation.
Queen’s University Belfast International Study Centre Preparation Courses
For those interested in Social Sciences, Finance and Management courses, but who do not meet the entry requirements, you may wish to consider a Pre-Master's offered by Queen’s University Belfast International Study Centre.
PhD Study
Students interested in undertaking a PhD at Queen’s University need good grades in their Bachelor and Master's degree programmes (if applicable) awarded by a recognised university, in addition to a strong research proposal. Applications for Postgraduate Taught Masters and PhD programmes must be made using the University's online application system. There is no application fee to apply for Postgraduate programmes.
All Masters degree programmes at Queen’s begin in September each year.
Postgraduate research programmes can begin at different times throughout the academic year. The start date has to be agreed with your PhD supervisor.
Applications should be submitted online via the Queen's Portal for admission to the vast majority of postgraduate programmes.
